May 2012 cover of Leatherneck Magazine. The May 2012 issue of Leatherneck Magazine commemorated the 100th Anniversary of Marine Corps aviation. The cover depicted a brief history, including significant figures and aircraft. The three individuals pictured include the first Marine Corps aviator, Alfred A. Cunningham, Gregory “Pappy” Boyington, leader of the famous VMA 214 “Black Sheep”, and Frank E. Peterson, the first black Marine Corps aviator who went on to become the first black Marine Corps general. This issue also included a commemorative poster that featured an image also painted by Jason. Both paintings were created using Gouache and acrylic on canvas.
Depicts the P-51D Mustang flown by Bill Spengler of the 78th Fighter Group, 83rd Fighter Squadron stationed in Duxford, England during World War II. The painting was commissioned by Warbird Digest Magazine to accompany an article about the same kind of aircraft that had been restored to the same markings.
