Edward Laney was an F-4U-4B Corsair pilot in the United States Navy during the Korean War. On September 15, 1950, the United States made a famous landing at Inchon Harbor, known as Operation Chromite. On the morning of the attack, Ensign Laney was flying over the Marine Corps landing craft as they headed for shore. The painting was created using Gouache and acrylic on canvas. Nine Yanks and a Jerk was a B-24 Liberator that flew as part of the 445th Bombardment Group of the Eighth Air Force during World War II. In one particular mission a German shell hit the aircraft, blowing a hole in the fuselage. Upon returning to base, the aircraft crash landed as a result of hydraulic fluid loss.
